Getting around Costa Caleta

By car: If you’re interested in taking day trips and exploring the island, hiring a car would be a sensible choice. The roads are good in Fuerteventura, and the island is small enough to get across in a couple of hours. However, check out the documentation you’ll need before you travel and remember the Golden Rule of driving on the right.

By bus: Buses are clean, prompt, and reliable. There are 16 bus-routes, covering most of the island, making this a great way to soak up the scenery without having to worry about driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road and where you’re going to park.

By bike: Perhaps the most serene way of seeing the sights, cycling is very popular on holidays to Costa Caleta. There are dedicated cycle-paths and trails, and bike-hire companies catering for all beginners through to the pros. Fuerteventura is becoming one of the top spots for cycling in Europe.

By foot: Stunning views to take in and great hiking tracks will be waiting should you decide to avoid any form of transport. Explore everything that this natural beauty has to offer while on a Costa Caleta holiday.

Events in Costa Caleta

Kite Festival: The international kite festival is held every year, in November, located in the nature reserve of the dunes of Corralejo. This event is aimed at attracting both amateurs and professional kite enthusiasts. During the four-day event, there are exhibitions, competitions, workshops and special sessions for kids. Roughly 700 kites in various shapes, colours and sizes decorate the sky in the Gran Canaria breeze.

Carnival season: The Fuerteventura carnival season takes place during February and March every year. Each major town hosts its own carnival with a selection of cultural, sporting and musical events. The main event takes place in the capital Puerto del Rosario, and the carnivals that take place in the popular tourist resorts of Costa Caleta and Corralejo usually held on to two weeks after the carnival in the capital.

Water sports: For the 33rd time in a row the Windsurfing / Kiteboarding World Cup will be held in Fuerteventura, and it’s highly recommended. The event takes place down in Playa Sotavento where you can experience world stars closer than anywhere else. There will be live music and a colourful support programme suitable for the whole family creating a unique atmosphere for a great day out. There are also legendary World Cup parties that run on through till dawn if that’s your thing.

Craft market: Every three months, March, June, September and December the small village of Tetir becomes home to the popular craft market. This event attracts residents and tourists from across the whole island where you can find aloe vera products, pottery and handmade jewellery. Expect a festival-like atmosphere with the typical Canarian music and cultural activities; sometimes there’ll even be activities for the kids such as inflatable castles or bicycle tours.

Temperature: 19-27 °C 

Even during the cooler months (November to March), Caleta de Fuste is a superb holiday destination enjoying the continual sunshine, with temperatures rarely dropping below a warm 15°C. The temperature starts to increase around April and stays blistering right into October, often reaching its peaks in July and August, climbing to the 30s.
