We love the chance for an extra taste of summer in the autumn half term holidays – it’s such a treat after those first few weeks back in the routine of homework and early nights. October's a great time to go to places that have year-round T-shirt weather, such as Gran Canaria. Or how about Orlando’s theme parks for a Halloween-themed break?

Is February good for family holidays? Absolutely! There’s nothing quite like escaping the UK at that point when it feels like the winter will never end. Destinations like Lanzarote are lovely and warm at this time of year. Book a hotel with a kids’ club and you might even be able to sneak off for a little Valentine’s celebration, whether that’s a cheeky cocktail by the pool or a peaceful visit to the spa – it might not be precisely the 14th, but who’s keeping check?

Summer's only just beginning by the May or June break and, let's be honest, the British weather’s not exactly reliable! So, book a half-term beach holiday to put some sun in your step and give the kids a chance to refresh before the last few weeks of the school year. We recommend Menorca, along with the other Balearic Islands – they're warming up at this time of year and are only a short flight away, so you can really make the most of your week off the school run.

We’ve got lots of ideas for things to do on May bank holiday weekends! How about hopping across to Dublin, Copenhagen or Amsterdam for a quick change of scene – they’re great cities to visit with teenagers, and perfect for a long weekend off school. Or live the dream at Disneyland Paris. It’s easy to get to via the Eurostar, and ideal for a short break.
