Menorca Nightlife

Whether you're looking for pumping clubs or peace and quiet, Menorca nightlife varies wildly, depending on where you're staying. Larger port cities like Ciutadella or Mahon have a choice of clubs, but in many of the resorts you'll find nightlife is centred around the bars and restaurants. Larger resorts are home to karaoke bars and live music, as well as sports bars. Smaller resorts are all about a good meal, and watching the world go by over a glass of wine.

Menorca bars

Cala'n Bosch bars are centred around the marina. If you want live music, try Tom's Bar, which is open until midnight each night.

Cala'n Foucat bars are the nearest you'll find to a classic Spanish tourist resort. Most of the liveliest bars are between Los Delfines Arch and the John Travolta statue. Jimmy Hills is a bit of an institution here It's open until 3am each night, and it's a great place to have fun, with regular entertainment and amusements for children.

The Blue Shamrock Music Bar has occasional live music and party nights, and is open until 4am.

Bars in Punta Prima, Menorca's hidden gem, are along the seafront, and usually serve food as well. This is a quiet resort, and most places close at 11pm or midnight. Restaurante Casa Fermin is one of the most established Punta Prima bars, and has welcomed guests since 1952. It serves traditional Mediterranean food, as well as cocktails.

Binibeca beach bar, or Los Bucaneros, is a great place to go for the best sunsets on the island. You'll enjoy beers, wines and good bar food in a laid back atmosphere. Opening hours vary, but it usually serves until 11pm.

If you're a little further along at Binbeca vell, bars are slightly limited, but top quality. Delaney's Cafe & Bar is reputed to serve the best paella in Menorca, andyou'll find it on Passeig Maritim Binibeca, with opening hours from10am to 11pm every day.

Arenal de Castell bars and restaurants are mostly clustered on the seafront. White's Bar has good cocktails and a tasty seafood menu, and La Paella has a lovely seafront spot, that's perfect for lingering over dinner and wine. Most bars and restaurants are open until 10 or 11pm.

For late night entertainment, head to Outback. This Aussie themed bar has pool tables, daily karaoke and weekly live music, and is open from 12pm to 1.30am daily. You'll find it on Paseo Maritimo, just back from the beach.

As a working town, many Mahon bars and restaurants are open all year, and are popular with locals and tourists. For good wines and food head to Moll de Llevant, where you'll find Mestre d'Aixa. Further along from here you'll find Sa Falua, which serves local Xoriguer gin, and you can sip cocktails until 4am.

Tapas is everywhere, but some of the best is in Boinder on Plaç Constitució. There's a wide range, including Sobrassada toast with melted Mahon cheese and honey. Boinder is open until at least 12am, with later hours at weekends.

Menorca clubs

Clubbing in Menorca is low key, especially compared to the other Balearic Islands, but there are a few towns where you can dance until the early hours.

Ciutadella

If you're staying on the west of the island, Ciutadella clubs are easy to reach by taxi. Most of the clubs are on Passeig de Sant Joan, just near the harbour. Kopas Club is considered the best in Ciutadella. It's spread over three floors and has two outdoor terraces. The music policy is varied, and it's more of a fun night out than serious clubbing. Kopas is open from 10am until 5.30am.

If you're looking for commercial dance music, Iguana Port on Passeij Plas des Moli is your best bet, and it's open Friday and Saturdays from 9pm to 5.30am.

Cova d'en Xoroi

This clifftop club is near the town of Cala en Porter on the south. There's daytime cocktails, live music as the sun goes down, as well as a dance-orientated club from 11pm. You can book for daytime, sunset or night-time sessions online, and there are various VIP packages to enjoy.

Mahon

Mahon has a couple of clubs, and it's easy to get to from resorts like Es Castell. The best place for dance music is Ama-gi on Carreró d'es Muret, open on Fridays from 12am to 6am, sometimes even later in summer.

For music, dancing and nachos in a casual atmosphere, try Sa Tintina on Anden de Poniente; it's more social club than nightclub, but it's a great night out, and open until 3am.

Live music

Most of the resorts will have at least one live music night, and the best way to find out what's on is to ask around or listen for something you like. If you're near Mahon, Es Claustre is an interesting venue, with musicians from Menorca and beyond. It's open Tuesdays to Thursdays from 7pm until 3am, Friday to 3am and Saturday 'til 12am.

Passeig de Sant Joan in Ciutadella is home to Jazzbah, where you'll hear tribute bands, local musicians and flamenco-inspired bands. It's got a chill-out lounge upstairs too, with views over the port. .

Night markets

For a different take on Menorca nightlife, there are late night craft markets in several resorts. Alaior in the centre of the island is one of the most famous and has lots of local crafts. It's open from 7pm until 11pm, June to September.

Cala en Porter has flea markets, open on Mondays and Thursdays from 7pm to 11pm,and there are more in Punta Prima, open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm to 11pm.

Port Steps in Ciutadella has goods for sale on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5pm, between June and September. Things to look out for include leather goods, local crafts, art and larger markets may sell clothing and souvenir food, like Sobrassada.
