Language: The official language of Langkawi is Malay. However, English is widely spoken and understood by the locals. 

Currency: The currency in Langkawi, Malaysia is the Malaysian ringgit (MYR).

Local time: Langkawi is 8 hours ahead of GMT. Malaysia doesn’t observe DST so in summer the time difference is reduced to 7 hours.

Fly to: Langkawi International Airport, located on the east of the island 7.5km from the city of Langkawi.

Flight time from the UK: Expect flights to take a minimum of 14 hours. You’ll need to change planes, most likely in either Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

Getting around Langkawi

By taxi: Taxis operate on a fixed price system. Grab app (similar to Uber) offers a cheaper option. With limited public transport methods this is the easiest way to get around if you’re not hiring a car.

By car/motorbike: British driving licences are accepted in Malaysia. You can prebook a hire car through us to collect at Langkawi Airport.

By bike: Some hotels offer bicycles for rent.

Langkawi safety and security

Langkawi is generally considered a safe destination but it is important to take sensible precautions. Beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers, particularly in busy tourist areas. Take extra care when drinking or out late at night and never accept drinks from strangers.

Langkawi weather

Langkawi has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round. From November to March, daytime highs are usually around the low 30s (°C), while the nights are a bit cooler but still pleasant. The wettest months are typically from August to October, with heavy downpours, though they often pass quickly. If you’re visiting during this period, keep a waterproof jacket handy. The dry season, from December to February, is the best time to visit for sunny skies and minimal rainfall.
