Indonesia safety and security

Indonesia is generally a safe destination but it is important to take sensible precautions. Beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers, particularly in busy tourist areas. Take extra care when drinking or out late at night, especially in Bali and Lombok. Drinks sold in licenced bars and off licences are generally stronger than in the UK. Never buy from unlicensed premises or accept drinks off strangers, as counterfeit brands may contain methanol.

Should I get travel insurance?

We always recommend that you purchase travel insurance for your holiday. That way, you’ll be covered for any medical expenses or emergencies while you’re away. Make sure to thoroughly check what is included in your policy, especially if you plan to take part in excursions and activities that require insurance.

Indonesia weather

Indonesia experiences a tropical climate, offering warm and humid conditions year-round. The country has two main seasons - dry and rainy. The dry season, from May to September, brings less humidity and more sunshine, making it the ideal time for visiting beaches and exploring the outdoors. In contrast, the rainy season, from October to April, sees higher humidity and frequent downpours, often accompanied by thunderstorms. Despite the rain, temperatures remain warm, rarely dropping below 20°C. Indonesia doesn't experience cold snaps, and snow is virtually unheard of, except on the peaks of some of its highest mountains.
