Fuerteventura’s famous for its year-round warm weather but that’s not all there is to this holiday island.

Fuerteventura may be an island but it’s sadly not small enough to stroll across, at around 100 km long and 300 km wide. But if you’re a fan of Shanks’ pony, don’t despair! Plenty of walking trails wind through the island's most beautiful places – including volcanic mountains, sand dunes and coastal cliffs. Top of the list for a shorter walk is the Ermita de la Pena trail through a gorge near Betancuria (the oldest town on the island). Taking around an hour there and back, it’s not too tricky and you’ll be rewarded with spectacular scenery.

Wherever you go, just be sure to take plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, sturdy shoes and a map. Remember, Fuerteventura can be very hot and dry, especially in the summer.
