As you step inside Gabbiano Nero, you'll be greeted by a friendly shop assistant, who will be happy to help without being pushy. You're free to wander among the fabulous collection of handmade sculptures and art pieces, picking out anything that takes your fancy.

Gabbiano Nero produce their own sculptures, which go through a complex procedure where they're crafted, fired, glazed, covered with sawdust and quenched in water. The end result is a collection of incredibly detailed pieces, which are very reasonably priced considering the time and effort that goes into them. You'll see sculptures of figures such as Alexander the Great and his horse Bucephalus, tinged with beautiful colours.

If you decide that you want to buy something, you can have it sent safely back home fully insured, so you don't have the worry of taking it yourself. Even if you don't make a purchase, it's a lovely place to wander around, feeling more like a gallery with exhibitions than a shop. There are some inexpensive items too, which make for wonderfully unique gifts.

After you've picked out a memento to take home, spend the rest of the day relaxing on the black shingly sands of Kamari Beach, or head up the Messavouno mountain and visit the incredible site of Ancient Thera.
