Kamari Beach Greece

Lap up the warm Greek sunshine with a visit to the cosmopolitan resort of Kamari Beach. Spend the day lying on the volcanic sands and swimming in the mild waters along the shimmering coastline. As Santorini's most famous Blue Flag beach, you're guaranteed to have a good time. Whether you're visiting with your partner, a group of friends or the whole family, Kamari Beach has something fun to do for everyone.

Sweeping black sands

Kamari Beach is known for its rugged volcanic setting. Found close to the peaks of Vouno Mountain, black sands sweep across Kamari's coastline for two kilometres. An unusual and dramatic landscape, you'll feel as though you've emerged in an entirely new world when you set foot on the beach. The striking black sands contrast next to the clear turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea.

Lounge beneath a thatched parasol in the sand and top up your tan beneath the shining sun. Bring a book and immerse yourself in the story as the warm sea breeze lightly cools your skin, or, just sit back and admire the Messavouno mountain, home of Ancient Thera which keeps a watchful eye over Kamari Beach.

At midday, when things get quite hot, you can slip off your flip-flops and enjoy a refreshing dip in the inviting sea.  Keep in mind that the beach dips quite sharply at the water's edge, so, keep a close eye on the kids if they've ventured off to cool down in the waters. The good news is that this volcanic beach setting has been awarded a Blue Flag which means you can relax knowing everything is clean and safe to enjoy.

Thrilling water sports

Pack some more action into your day and have a go at some of the water sports on offer. Get the whole family on a banana boat ride and see how long you can all stay on board! Whether you're a novice or a seasoned pro, there's a variety of activities to choose from. Make a splash with some water-skiing along the coast, or, try your hand at wakeboarding or tubing for a unique water experience.

Restaurants and attractions

If you've worked up an appetite, head to the café lined promenade. The main strip is packed with lounge bars, local restaurants and tasty taverns. Most serve traditional Greek cuisine yet, you'll also find classic European dishes that might be more to the kids' liking.

After lunch, you can shop in the souvenir shops located throughout the area. If you're a movie buff, you'll love the open air cinema in Kamari Beach. You'll find it tucked away from the main tourist spots over beside the local bus station. Most nights, the movie will start around 9.30 pm. You can bring some snacks with you if you like or make the most out of the full cocktail bar set up in the garden.

When you're ready, grab a deck chair and your refreshing cocktail and cosy up for a late night movie under the stars.
