One of the ways to experience this French city is enjoy life at a relaxed, unhurried pace. When the sun’s shining, take a stroll down the Promenade des Anglais, France’s most recognisable promenade. Stretching for 7km along the seafront.

Then move onto ‘Vieux Nice’, the Old Town. Packed with winding, cobbled streets and beautiful architecture, the district is home to the colourful Cours Saleya flower market, where you can also pick up unusual second-hand trinkets. Stop off for an ice cream at Fenocchio ice cream parlour or get there as dusk falls to experience the district’s lively nightlife.

Attractions

Nice has plenty of museums to choose from and entry to many Nice attractions is totally free. Head to Cimiez where you’ll find the Musee Mattisse, the Museum of Asian Art, and the archaeological museum.

There’s so much to keep you busy and interested, like the Colline du Chateau. You can climb the rather steep steps to this ruined castle for spectacular views from the 90m viewing platform. If that seems a bit of a stretch then take a lift three-quarters of the way up the hill for a more leisurely visit.

If you fancy something a bit more energetic and you’ve never tried a segway then you really must on one of the city’s segway tours. You’ll spot stunning Art Deco as you’re finding your way round and, if you’re visiting between February and March, you may see the Nice Carnival parade go by.

Shopaholics will find plenty to keep them occupied in Nice. Most of the shops can be found on Avenue Jean Medecin, but it’s well worth visiting Galleries Lafayette for an authentic French department store experience. Nice Etoiles mall is also a popular choice if you’re looking for high street brands.

Once you’ve finished shopping, sit and relax in one of Nice’s many restaurant and cafes. As well as Salade Nicoise (salad with tuna), there are a number of local dishes you should look out for on holidays to Nice. Local delicacies include, ‘Socca’, a local chickpea flat bread; Soupe de Poisson (fish soup); and Pissaladiere, a pizza topped with onions, anchovies, garlic, and olives.
