Sprinkled with whitewashed buildings and ancient ruins, there are plenty of things to do in Lindos. When you visit this peaceful village, you'll feel an immediate pull to the towering Acropolis that peers over the village from its clifftop throne. Wander through cobbled streets, explore the ancient ruins and soak up the warm sunshine on the beach as you enjoy a peaceful getaway. If you're planning a trip to Lindos soon, here are a few of the best things to do and see while you're there:

Things to do

Begin your visit with an exploration of the village of Lindos, which is 2,000 years old and swarming with impressive Byzantine and Turkish architecture. Dine in a friendly taverna or go for a three-course meal in a romantic Greek restaurant overlooking the pristine blue sea coastline. While the sun is out, head to Saint Paul's Beach or the Beach of Lindos and sunbathe or try your hand at some windsurfing or water-skiing that's sure to get your heart pumping.

If you're in the mood for some snorkelling, stick to St Paul's Bay. Grab your snorkelling gear from the local centre and start exploring the mesmerising waters along the sheltered harbour, where you'll discover an abundance of colourful marine life beneath the water's surface. In Lindos, things to do come easy and you'll have no shortage of fun activities and places to see while you're here.

Places to visit

One of the best places to visit in Lindos for souvenirs is Kori, a quaint jewellery boutique in town that offers work from upcoming artists and jewellers. Shop for handmade bags and delicate earrings that sparkle in the light. Learn about the history of Lindos at the Tsambika Byzantine Museum. This ornate church is well worth exploring as you'll get to look at some amazing artefacts such as old bibles and other colourful pieces of history.

When you've worked up an appetite and looking for a quick snack, head over to Captain's House. Inside, you'll uncover a 16thcentury sea captain's home which just so happens to be a nice little café. It's a great spot to regain your strength following or preceding a hike up to the Acropolis.

If you're looking for something more substantial to eat, the Calypso taverna is perfect. Dine on traditional seafood dishes such as octopus and sea bass or go for the grilled lamb chops and pair it with a glass of wine in the evening.

Attractions

Book a tour of The Church of the Panagia in Lindos and wander through the impressive church built back in 1300. Ponder at the painted ceiling and sparkling chandeliers dipping overhead before making your way to the courtyard, where you'll catch a great view of the tall campanile tower. There are lots of great attractions in Lindos but the number one favourite has got to be the Acropolis, an archaeological site first walled in the 6th century.

You'll have to make sure you've got a comfortable pair of shoes on when you decide to tackle this one because you'll be on your feet for most of it. The footpath is incredibly steep and climbs 116m above the village. Our best advice is to take your time, pack plenty of water and stop for rest breaks when necessary. Once you reach the top, you can explore the ancient Temple of Athena and the Hellenistic Stoa. Take a minute to peer out at the far-reaching views over Lindos and the stunning sea coast.

Places to see

Don't leave Lindos without seeing the Tomb of Kleoboulos, which is the ancient tomb of a wealthy family that once lived in the village. The circular structure includes a vaulted roof and you're free to step inside and explore the tomb further. You'll notice ancient wall paintings and where the sarcophagus once rested inside the tomb. It's worth noting that to reach the tomb, you'll have to take a scenic walk that usually takes around one hour each way from the village. But, the stunning views and the peaceful escape from the crowds in the village will make it more than worth the effort.

If you have time to explore more, there's plenty of places to see in Lindos that doesn't require a hike through the countryside. You can take a bus or drive to Rhodes Town, which is an hour's drive from the village. There, you can shop for souvenirs and visit a 14th century knights' palace before hopping on a sailing boat to explore the breathtaking coast.
