Explore the caves of Sami
There's a lot of limestone in Kefalonia, which means the island is blessed with a lot of caves. The biggest of all these caves is Drogarati, which is 100 metres long and has a huge collection of stalactites and stalagmites. It's known as the ”Concert Cave' because of the stage and excellent acoustics that is has.
Another popular cave in Sami is the Melissani Cave. The cave has two different chambers, so there's plenty to explore. The first is a sunlit paradise with a crystal clear lake surrounded by trees.
At noon you'll be treated to a natural light show as the cave is filled with a blue light that will leave you in awe. In the second chamber, the domed roof has been artificially lit so the hanging stalactites can take on the shapes of dolphins as they swim through the ocean.
