Prince’s Palace in Monte Carlo
As a country in its own right, Monaco has a royal family who live at the Prince’s Palace. From here, the Grimaldi family manage the running of the country, and parts of the palace are open to the public during the high season.
As one of the most luxurious royal residences in the world, it’s well worth a visit on your stay in Monte Carlo. Between April and October you can go and look around the State Apartments where you’ll walk through the Mirror Gallery before browsing the Louis XV Lounge, the beautiful Blue Room, the Throne Room and the Palatine Chapel.
Don’t miss the white stone St Mary’s Tower, and the ornate marble staircase at the Carrara. Along the way, look out for the Renaissance fireplace, wood panelled walls and 15th century frescoes with images of mythical creatures.
Prince’s Palace also hosts a number of events throughout the year, including the annual Christmas children’s party.
Book to go and see the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra play their open air concerts in the courtyard, or go and see the Changing of the Guard. This happens every day at 11.55am on the square in front of the palace.
After visiting Prince’s Palace, spend some time in the Place du Palais, where you’ll have great views of the royal building, before going to the Oceanographic Museum which is just a short walk away. To save on queuing, you can buy a joint ticket to cover both attractions. Saint Nicholas Cathedral and Saint-Martin Gardens are also close by.
