Enjoy a wonderful day out for the whole family when you spend a morning at the California Science Center. See a real life spaceship and a range of fascinating exhibits with a trip to one of the best attractions in Los Angeles.
Close to Downtown LA, the California Science Center is in Exposition Park along with the city's Natural History Museum and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Take in the quirky design features of the centre's building, then head inside to start exploring. It's free to get into the centre, although there are charges for certain attractions such as the IMAX cinema.
You'll need at least half a day to see all of the interesting exhibits, including Creative World where your little ones can have some hands-on fun, and Ecosystems, where they can learn all about the connections between the earth's environments.
The California Science Center's biggest draw, though, is undoubtedly the Air & Space exhibit. As you step inside the Samuel Oschin Pavilion, you'll see a genuine space shuttle, Endeavour, hanging from the ceiling. Retired from service in 2011, there's an exhibit featuring artefacts from the shuttle, which will give you some information on Endeavour before you set eyes on the impressive craft.
There are lots of fun activities to get involved with at the centre, including rock climbing and a high wire bicycle, as well as a changing programme of special exhibitions.
When you get hungry, there's a cafe, grill restaurant and shop where you can buy sandwiches and snacks. Or grab some sweet treats from the concessions stand before seeing a film in the IMAX theatre.
After your visit to the California Science Center, explore the other attractions in Exposition Park, before heading over to Venice Beach to walk the promenade. Then head to the Griffith Observatory for a memorable sunset overlooking Los Angeles.
