Çeşme Castle
Escape the hustle and bustle in the centre of town and head to the picturesque coast for stunning views of the ocean and a chance to uncover the resorts history by visiting Çeşme Castle. The fortress was built in 1508, under the rule of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II and was repeatedly bombed and repaired in battles over time.
The impressive structure looms over the harbour and is protected by three huge defence walls and towers. Climb to the top of the Ottoman castle towers for spectacular, 360 degree panoramic views of Çeşme and its turquoise shores. Walk through well-preserved staterooms and discover ancient tombstones.
The grounds are also home to two museums, where you can learn more about the history and see the 477 unearthed artefacts and relics on display from battles like the three day naval war fought between the Ottomans and Russians.
