Saklikent Gorge in Fethiye
Prepare to have your breath taken away as you take a trip to the incredible Saklikent Gorge, best known as the Hidden City. The gorge is the second largest in Europe and the grandest in all of Turkey. In fact, it's one of the deepest in the world! Walk along the boardwalk over the rushing rapids below, and find yourself surrounded by the towering limestone cliffs above.
The gorge is filled with meltwater from the Taurus Mountains and when you reach the crossing section, don't expect the water to be warm! A guide can help you cross the river and you'll feel its power as you make your way to the other side. A spectacular waterfall is well worth the hike, and the damp feet!
Take a trip down the rapids with the whole family
Walking the gorge gives you a great impression of just how powerful nature can be, but to really feel it, why not try river rafting? Sign up for a rafting tour and you'll get a big rubber ring, strong paddles, and a lifejacket each. While the water can be strong, the rapids are gentle and the whole family can be swept happily down the river for over half an hour.
An experienced guide will be with you the whole way, so don't worry about getting lost. You'll never forget your day trip to Saklikent Gorge Turkey, but you'll need to take a camera if anyone back home is going to believe how beautiful it really is!
Don't miss the suspended restaurants either, as this is one of the most relaxing things to do here. They're tucked away in the valley and have wooden seating just above the rushing river.
Have lunch suspended above the river in a beautiful restaurant
This unique spot is great for a delicious bite to eat and the chance to relax on traditional Turkish rugs and cushions in the shade, whilst listening to the current flow by underneath you. A truly magical spot, the clear water and the Turkish heat combine to create a wonderful ambience. Browse the souvenir stalls and buy pretty gifts like jewellery, local foods, and funny novelty items.
Saklikent Gorge is popular with tourists, but it still manages to feel like Turkey's biggest secret. Take clothes you can get wet, your swimming things, bottled water, and some submersible shoes if you have them. If not, you can hire jelly shoes in the gorge. Sun cream is definitely recommended, and don't forget your camera and cash! (Handy tip: take a plastic zip bag to put your wallet in to stop your money and credit cards getting wet!)
Combine a trip to Saklikent Gorge with the ancient citadel of Tlos
Getting to Saklikent Gorge is easy if you're in the Dalaman region. You can combine it with a visit to Tlos, an ancient ruined citadel near Kalkan, and visit the nearby Lycian rock tombs. Turkey is filled with ancient architecture and hidden secrets of old civilisations and a day trip to Saklikent Gorge will give you a lasting impression of this wonderful land.
