Yivliminare Mosque in Antalya

While on holiday in Antalya, a visit to the iconic Yivliminare Mosque is a must. Standing tall above the city, the fluted minaret was originally built in the 13th century, and is now one of the most photographed attractions in the city.

Standing east of the mosque, the Yivliminare has a square base rising up to an impressive tower that stretches 38 metres into the sky. As you get closer to the minaret you'll see the ornate blue mosaic walls, the high balcony and the pointed roof emerging from the surrounding trees and palms.

Inside, there are 90 steps to reach the top of the tower. After exploring the minaret, go and see the neighbouring mosque with its six ornate domes.

The Yivliminare Mosque is part of a building complex, so you'll also see the Mevlevi Tekke monastery, two medieval tombs and an educational building known as a Medrese.

Once you've looked around the complex, go and see some of the sights nearby. There are lots of museums in the city, including archaeology at Antalya Museum and childhood memories at the Antalya Toy Museum. To find out more about the local history, go and see the old city walls and the ancient entrance to the old town, Hadrian's Gate.

To escape the hustle and bustle of the city, pay a visit to Konyaalti Beach or Lara Beach, both of which can be reached by public transport. At Konyaalti Beach, you can relax on the long stretch of sand or buy some Turkish ice cream from one of the many food stalls.
