Alanya Castle In Turkey
Alanya's famous landmark was built in the 13th century and is situated 250 metres high on a rocky peninsula, providing magnificent panoramic views of the glistening turquoise water. A four mile long archaic wall surrounds the well-preserved grounds which can be seen from all around.
An hourly bus service runs from the city and up the long, winding road to Alanya's castle entrance. Inside the main fortress you can discover ancient ruins of buildings and cisterns and the shell of an 11th century Byzantine church that captures what it was like living in this era.
