Once a small fishing village, Roquetas de Mar can be dated back to the Roman era. Its traditions can still be seen through their annual festivals, Moorish narrow streets and whitewash houses that blanket the hillside. By car: The resort is located in the heart of Costa de Almeria, ideally situated for day trips to the surrounding attractions. If you’re interested in exploring then the easiest way is by car. There’s a good choice of car hire companies in the region and at the airports.

On foot: Roquetas de Mar is easy to navigate on foot, with the buzzing promenade and beach an easy distance from the town and hotels.

Events in Roquetas de Mar

Holy week: Book your holidays to Roquetas de Mar in March and you could be lucky enough to catch the Semana Santa celebrations. Marking the last days of Christ, it might sound a bit sombre, but the resort transforms into a huge party! Expect medieval costumes, flamboyant floats, torchlit processions, and plenty of live music and dancing.

Street festival: August sees the Our Lady of the Sea festival hit the streets. A traditional Spanish party, you’ll see sporting activities, hear live music, watch glittering parades and experience some of the best flamenco dancing in Spain. And there’s Sangria, lots and lots of Sangria!
