Tenerife Nightlife: Bars & Clubs

You don't have to look far to find great bars, clubs and live music venues on the largest of Spain's Canary Islands. But it's handy to know what the scene's like before you get there, so here's a taster of the best places to go in Tenerife for nightlife.

Be prepared for a late one. The glittering clubs and bars of Tenerife don't usually get going until close to midnight, keeping revellers happy right through the small hours and beyond. You'll also find that shops and restaurants are open much later than they are in the UK.

Thanks to Tenerife's late-night leanings, you can also take advantage of a huge variety of entertainment. Along with bars and clubs, there're always live music performances, underground dance parties and beachfront parties that spill out onto the sand as the evening progresses.

One of the best things about the nightlife in Tenerife has to be the bargain prices. It's an island that caters to all budgets, for the most part inexpensive but with the option to splash out if you want to. Beer and wine is around 3,50€ a glass, while cocktails and sangria will cost a little more. Most clubs will try to lure you in with drinks offers, and fierce competition between bars in the area means you'll be able to find a corking deal (perfect when it's your round).

There's nowhere better to start your search for the best Tenerife nightlife than Playa de Las Américas. The undisputed party capital of the island, this port town and beach resort lines its streets with amazing cocktail bars and taverns. During the day, you could be forgiven for thinking it's a market town, with stalls selling knick-knacks as far as the eye can see.

But as evening falls, you'll find yourself spoilt for choice. With three main nightlife areas to explore: The Patch, The Veronicas and Starco Commercial Centre. Bars will often send reps to try and tempt you into picking their venue with free entry and drinks. Try to resist these enthusiastic party-peddlers. Instead, take your time to find the right venue, with an atmosphere you'll enjoy.

Don't be afraid to bar hop, either. Your new favourite watering hole could be just around the corner, but you'll never know unless you look. Just up the road from Playa de Las Américas is Costa Adeje. While it's a quieter scene overall, there're still lots to choose from here, including the popular clubs on the beach, each with their own style, and amazing views to boot.

With its long history of incredible nightlife, Tenerife has still managed to move with the times, with several family-friendly options now available throughout the night. You'll enjoy the lively St. Eugen's area and other music venues peppering Los Cristianos, ideal for group outings.

And if you'd rather hit the shops than the dancefloor, treat yourself to some retail therapy by exploring the nearby malls and markets. Be sure to stop by one of the English or Irish-style pubs. Concentrated mainly in the busy centre of Playa de Las Américas, you can enjoy a cold beer from back home, as well as live sport and English-language telly.

But no matter where you find yourself in Tenerife, you're certain to discover a welcoming atmosphere, a refreshing drink, and an unbeatable party vibe.
