Lanzarote Nightlife: Bars & Clubs

A popular holiday destination all year round, Lanzarote is famous for its vibrant nightlife. In terms of clubbing, it's not quite as hectic as Tenerife or Ibiza, but there's still a good mix of Lanzarote bars to suit everyone, whether you're a party-all-nighter or prefer something more chilled out. A nightclub as we know them is referred to as a 'discoteca' in Lanzarote, and resorts throughout the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. Because Lanzarote has long been popular with British holidaymakers, you'll find English is spoken in most bars and clubs, and much of the entertainment in the big resorts will be in English, too.  

Nightlife in Puerto del Carmen

Most of Lanzarote nightlife is concentrated on the southern coast, where you can visit clubs and cocktail bars in Puerto del Carmen. This is where you'll find one of the Canary Islands' party hotspots, Avenida de las Playas, where you can dance the night away to everything from hardcore house to glam disco.

Feeling lucky? Head to one of the casinos for some roulette. The resort also has plenty more lively bars and places to eat out near the harbour and Old Town, where you'll also find some of Lanzarote's most luxurious hotels.  

Nightlife in Playa Blanca

If you're staying in Playa Blanca, there are elegant Lanzarote nightclubs and eateries in the Marina Rubicón neighbourhood, which is known for its impressive yachts and is popular with celebrities. This is high-end nightlife, so dress to impress! One of the most popular venues here is Café Del Mar, where you can expect a chilled-out vibe, great music and wonderful sea views. You'll find other excellent nightlife venues in the Centro Comercial Punto Limones near the port and the Centro Comercial Papagayo near Playa Dorado, too.  

Nightlife in Arrecife

While many of the coastal resorts in Lanzarote are popular with international tourists, especially those from western Europe, if you'd like to mingle with the locals, head to the island capital, Arrecife. Here you'll find other vibrant Lanzarote bars playing a wide range of music that will appeal to everyone.  

Nightlife in Costa Teguise

The third biggest resort in Lanzarote, Costa Teguise lies just to the north of Arrecife and has a much quieter, laid-back theme than the island's other resorts. The emphasis here is on cocktail bars and live music rather than clubbing, so it's also perfect for those looking for somewhere a bit more low key or with a family-friendly atmosphere.  

Dance at the Jameos del Algua caves

Ever partied in a volcano? We bet you haven't! On Lanzarote you can do just that, and one place you have to visit during your holiday to Lanzarote is the amazing lava cave system of Jameos del Algua, which turns into an underground disco each week. The attraction, which includes a subterranean salt lake and emerald pool, also has a museum, restaurant, garden and auditorium, and even include volcanic tunnels. It can be found in the far northeast of the island, about 27km from Arrecife further down the coast.

In general, Lanzarote bars are open throughout the day, every day, while clubs don't usually open until about 11pm. Like the rest of Spain, the dance floor often doesn't get busy until after midnight, and many clubs stay open until 5am or 6am. So, if you're keen to make the most of Lanzarote nightclubs and dance the night away, consider doing as the locals do and take a nap around mid afternoon, when many shops and restaurants close for the siesta.  

Best time to visit Lanzarote

It's warm all year round in Lanzarote; even in the winter, daytime temperatures regularly exceed 20℃, while at the height of summer it often reaches the upper 20s. Even in the quieter months of May, June, September and October, there's still a decent mix of nightlife, and prices are often considerably cheaper than the busier months.

However, in the winter, it can get rather cool at night, with temperatures typically dipping into the low teens, so it's a good idea to bring some warmer clothing when you're exploring the Lanzarote nightlife at this time of year. If you're going to Lanzarote in late February or early March, you can also attend the island's magnificent Carnival, which includes stunning processions, live music and dances. Unsurprisingly, this is a popular time to visit, so book ahead to avoid disappointment.

If you're looking for some fun alternatives to Lanzarote bars and clubs, go on an excursion inland to the incredible Timanfaya National Park, an immense volcanic landscape with dramatic geysers. Or explore some of the island's other beaches such as the pristine white sands and emerald waters of Playa de Papagayo near Playa Blanca on the northern coast, or the surfing hotspot of Playa de Famara on the northern coast, north of Teguise.
