6 Things to do in Costa Teguise

One of Lanzarote's most popular holiday resorts, Costa Teguise is famous for its golden beaches, upmarket bars, and surfing. Whether you're here with a loved one or the whole family, here are some of the best things to do in Costa Teguise and the surrounding area.

Take the family to Aquapark

Tear yourself away from the beach for a day and head to this superb waterpark on the outskirts of Costa Teguise, the largest in the Canary Islands. Zoom down the adrenaline-boosting waterslides, try some paintball, challenge someone on the go-karts, then grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants on-site. It's a fabulous day out and one of the most exciting Costa Teguise things to do for families.

Explore the Timanfaya National Park

Spend the day at this incredible national park in southwestern Lanzarote, where you can see dozens of volcanoes formed when the Fire Mountains were created in the early 18th century. Book a tour from your hotel in Costa Teguise, to the park and enjoy superb views from the Mirador de Las Nievas viewpoint.

One fun thing you can do here is pour water down holes in the ground, which will burst back above the surface as a geyser in just a few seconds; just make sure you jump back in time! The temperature of the crust just beneath the earth is so high, that a restaurant here uses the heat to grill its fish and meat, where you can dine while enjoying awe-inspiring views of the volcanic landscape.

Go to the Aquarium Costa Teguise

One of the most popular things to do in Costa Teguise, this aquarium has a stunning underwater tunnel with various colourful fish species and a shark tank. If you're looking for a change of scenery to the beach or the hotel pool, this is a great pick. In a lava coulee created during extraordinary volcanic eruptions of the 1730s, this huge building includes five natural volcanic bubbles which the town's famous son, visionary artist Manrique transformed into rooms. Visit the small ballroom and swimming pool, see the beautiful plant life surrounding the building, and take a look at Manrique's former painting studio where you can see some of his prized works.

Visit Arrecife

See Arrecife's impressive 18th century San José Castle, then head to the Castillo de San Gabriel castle and museum to learn more about Lanzarote's history. Visit the impressive Catholic church of San Ginés, built on a 16th century hermitage, and have a look at Temple Hall, a former British cargo ship that sank off Lanzarote's coast in 1981.

Get arty at the César Manrique Foundation

Just 7km or a 10-minute journey from the centre of Costa Teguise, the César Manrique Foundation is the former home of one of Lanzarote's most famous figures, César Manrique, an artist and architect. It's a fascinating look into the mind of one of the world's best artists, and another place definitely worth including on your list of things to do in Costa Teguise.
