Bandama Caldera

If you're a nature lover and enjoy nothing more than getting out and exploring your surroundings while on holiday, then seeing Gran Canaria's Caldera de Bandama is an absolute must. Part of the island's Tafia Protected Landscape, it's a fascinating volcanic crater and a point of geological interest. The crater stands at 569m above sea level; it's about 1,000m wide and about 200m deep. Inside, you'll find volcanic ash of all different shades, as well as ancient rock carvings and a number of different botanic species; all native to the Canary Islands.

It's definitely worth the trip up here, even if it's just to take in the incredible panoramic views from the top. The peak has an observation deck and on a really clear day, you might even be able to see as far as the island of Fuerteventura. The crater is located at the meeting point of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde and Santa Brigida.
