Cruz del Descubrimiento in Santa Ponsa

For the best views across Santa Ponsa and out to sea, take a stroll to Cruz del Descubrimiento. Walking along the pushchair-friendly paths, it takes around 30 minutes to reach the monument from the beach. Once there, you'll find out more about Majorca's history while watching the boats in the bay below.

To get to Cruz del Descubrimiento, follow the road towards the harbour by forking right and staying alongside the bay. When you arrive at the iconic cross, you'll be rewarded with views across the bay and marina, so don't forget your camera and selfie stick.

After the original was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1997, the cross you see today was rebuilt shortly after. At the monument, you'll learn more about the fascinating history of Santa Ponsa. The cross commemorates the landing of King James I, who began modern day Spanish rule after ending 300 years under the control of the Moors.

If you're in Santa Ponsa in September, you may be lucky enough to experience the two week fiesta to mark King James' arrival. During the festival, you'll see mock battles, live music and fireworks. After enjoying the view at the Cruz del Descubrimiento, head back to the beach or continue on to the nearby marina where you can watch the boats as they come in and out of the harbour.

If you're feeling energetic, go to Jungle Parc where you'll climb, swing and race down zip lines on action-packed courses in the woods.
