Family holidays to Portugal
With 300 days of sunshine every year and Blue Flag beaches galore, it's no surprise that family holidays to Portugal prove popular year on year. You'll have an amazing choice of resorts to choose from, whether it's on the mainland or over on the island of Madeira. And there's a place to suit every budget.
If you're travelling to the Algarve with the kids in tow, you'll have lots of fun at the family-friendly Be Live Family Palmeiras Village. As well as comfortable rooms with plenty of space for everyone, you've got an on-site waterpark providing hours of fun, and you're only a short walk from the super soft beach, too. You can opt for an All Inclusive stay if you want to cover the essentials in advance and keep your budget in check.
Over in Madeira, the lively town of Funchal is home to Ocean Gardens; you'll find it perched on the top of a cliff, overlooking the ocean from its prime position. Kids will love splashing around in the pool before heading for a bite to eat at the restaurant. Many rooms come with their own balcony, so you can all sit outside and soak up the sunshine from the comfort of your own accommodation.
Heading for the Algarve? You'll never be far away from a beach, where the little ones can play on the sand and splash around in the sea all day. If you fancy a change of scenery (and don't already have one at your hotel), you can make your way to one of the region's waterparks. Take your pick from the likes of Aqualand and Aquashow Park, which all have an array of chutes like kamikaze slides and Black Holes. Small children might prefer to take it slower at Atlantic Park, which have lots of gentler rides. For older kids, the region offers go-karting, or you could always try your hand at surfing or mini-golf.
Head inland to explore pretty towns with dramatic castles, and flower-studded countryside. Alternatively, you could splash around in the Fontes de Estombar natural springs or visit Pego do Inferno, with its lovely rock pools, picnic spots and a tumbling waterfall. Meanwhile, over on the island of Madeira, you can discover a brilliant family-friendly theme park in the small town of Santana. It's got replica villages, playgrounds and an auditorium that talks through the fascinating history of Madeira. It's a great place to learn a little about the island's history and culture while having fun.
