Trip From Sorrento To Pompeii
Just a 40 minute drive from Sorrento is the historic archaeological site of Pompeii. The once thriving Roman city was buried in meters of molten lava from an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 C.E, which also destroyed the nearby city of Herculaneum.
Pompeii is famous for being the city the disappeared as what was left of Pompeii was only discovered 1700 years later. Interestingly the ash preserved the city, which makes the ruins seem like the city was frozen in time. Its excavation of buildings, relics and even people, gives a detailed look into daily life of this time period.
Visitors can freely explore the unearthed remains to see the plaster cast moulds of the Pompeii citizens, beautiful decorated home, ancient baths and grand amphitheatre.
