Santuario Di San Giuseppe in Sant'Agnello

A visit to the Santuario di San Giuseppe is an absolute must on your trip to Sant'Agnello. A beautiful old church which contains some lovely frescoes, it's a great way to spend an hour or two while you're out sightseeing in Sant'Agnello.

Just a stone's throw from the Piazza Giacomo Matteotti town hall, the Santuario di San Giuseppe is a Catholic church that opened in 1907. As you arrive, gaze up at the Romanesque marble facade exterior. You'll see a statue of Christ right at the top of the building, the work of sculptor Galli di Lucca

Stepping through the entrance beneath a relief of Saint Joseph and some angels, you'll walk below statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul either side of the door.

Once inside, admire the frescoes painted by Veronese artist Agostino Pegrassi, ornate altars and the stained glass image of the Resurrection. If you're in town during a period such as Easter or Christmas, then there might be a procession or festival that you can take in at the church.

After you've spent some time exploring the Santuario di San Giuseppe, take a short stroll over to the Chiesa di San Prisco e Agnello. Then spend the rest of the day relaxing on the public beach at Stabilimento Balneare La Marinella as the sun sinks in the sky.
