Just three kilometres away from Rhodes Town, you’ll find Rodini Park, one of the island’s most idyllic spaces. Whether you want to escape the sizzling midday heat or you’re seeking some tranquility away from the town’s hustle and bustle, this natural oasis is the perfect pit-stop when you fancy a change of pace.

Look out for floating lilies in its pretty ponds, or find some shade under a plane tree and enjoy a picnic by the running stream. And don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for the roaming peacocks - one of the park’s most-loved attractions. There are plenty more opportunities to spot the local wildlife too with turtles, terrapins, ducks and swans all residing here. It’s also home to a mini zoo, where you can observe rare Rhodian deer.

History of Rhodian Park

When you’re not admiring the park’s jungle-like scenery, you could be learning all about its fascinating history. As the first ever landscaped park in the world, it’s hardly surprising that it was popular among the Romans. They loved it so much they decided to build an aqueduct here, which you will still find traces of today. Want to delve even deeper into the park’s past? Then, take the 10-minute walk to the tomb of the Ptolemies. You’ll find this Hellenistic shrine carved into the rocks and decorated by 21 Doric half pillars. 

Getting to Rodini Park

A taxi or a private tour are your best options, but this will also depend on where you’re staying. You can also jump on bus number 3 from the city’s main market. This will take you to the park’s nearest stop, which is just a short walk away from the entrance. Always make you check the schedule before you set off as buses don’t always run on time.
