Climb up to Our Lady of the Sweet Kiss
Otherwise known as Panagia Glykofilousa, the church of Our Lady of the Sweet Kiss sits proudly perched on top of a huge rock in the centre of Petra. Petra is a small village on the north coast of Lesbos, which is rapidly growing in popularity, due to its cultural charm, excellent beach and superb offering of cafés, bars and local tavernas. The unique church is the main focal point of the village and well worth a visit at some point during your Lesbos holiday.
In order to get to the church, you must first climb a number of steps up the rock, which can be quite tiring. For that reason, it's always best to go up here either first thing in the morning or later on in the day when the sun is no longer at its hottest. The inside is beautiful to look around, but it is still a functioning church so you are required to have your knees and shoulders covered at all times. This tranquil and picturesque church is ranked the number one attraction in the whole of Lesbos on Tripadvisor.
This is not just for what's inside the church, but also for the incredible views that you get when you're up at the top of the rock. So take your camera with you and make sure you allow plenty of time to soak up the stunning views around you.
