Malia Nightlife Greece: Bars & Clubs

With temperatures in the summer months averaging around 26℃, Malia's ideal if you want to top up your tan on a lively beach. However, as the sun starts to slip over the horizon, Malia nightlife shows its mischievous side. Sitting just 40 minutes east of the capital, this coastal town has some of the best beaches on the island, plenty of water sports, ancient Greek ruins, and natural wonders. Once the sun sets, things kick up a gear.

Rivalling the likes of Ibiza, Malia nightlife is perfect if you want to relax by day and party into the small hours. If you're looking for the best nightlife in Malia, then put Dimokratias Street at the top of your list. Known locally as 'Beach Road' or ”The Strip' by the locals, this is the place to find the best bars and clubs.

Bars

There are so many bars to choose from along Dimokratias Street, that it can be difficult to know where to start. However, if you're looking to ease into your evening gently, then the Kaza Bar is the place to start. It's open during the day and worth visiting in the early evening, before things get too lively. One of the larger bars on The Strip, it's a bar, café, pub and sports bar, all under one roof. If you're missing the taste of home, this is the place to enjoy a familiar meal and a drink or two. There are plenty of beers and wine, or you can order a cool cocktail to set the tone for the evening. Once the shots start coming out, you might want to move on, or you run the risk of spending your entire evening here.

The Red Lion Pub is a great place to start the evening. About halfway down The Strip, it's been built in the style of a British pub but with a little local Cretan style thrown in, just to remind you that you're on holiday. The Red Lion serves pub classics such as burgers and chips, and offers a good selection of beers. Like most of the bars along this stretch, it gets livelier as the night goes on, so go early if you want to avoid the crowds.

The bottom of Beach Road is home to the Help Bar. This where you want to be as the evening's starting to warm up. Allegedly home of the famous ”fishbowl cocktail', you and your friends can enjoy a cocktail of your choice, served in a fishbowl. The Help Bar is as renowned for its music as it is for its oversized drinks, so expect to see partygoers busting some moves from the moment you step inside. Resident DJs keep the sounds coming long into the night.

Clubs

Malia nightlife is hot and hectic, with clubs overflowing and the party spilling out onto the streets. The Strip is a clubber's paradise, with each club offering promotions and deals to attract you inside. The Candy Club is widely regarded as one of the best clubs along Beach Road and is the place to be seen. With two huge dance floors, a superb sound system, and cutting-edge laser light shows, it's got all the right ingredients for a great night. There are multiple bars, which keeps the queuing down, and the VIP area is very exclusive, with table service and a seated area.

Located in the centre of The Strip, the Apollo Club has a well-earned reputation for playing the latest music. Describing itself as an urban club, this is the place to go if you're a fan of grime, hip-hop, RnB or garage music. If the huge dance floor isn't enough for you, follow the queues to the dance podiums. The sound system is amazing, and the Apollo's walls have huge, plasma-screen TVs playing music videos. Big name DJs are a regular occurrence here, but there are regular silent discos for those who want to have more control over the music they dance to.

The town's largest and longest-standing club, the Camelot Castle Club has been a fixture of the Malia nightlife scene since 2001. Situated where Dimokratias Street and Mattheou Zachariadi Street meet, its turrets and battlements make it hard to miss. However, while its exterior might look like something out of the Middle Ages, it's one of the most contemporary clubs on The Strip. Inside, you'll find three bars and a stunning dance floor complete with eye-popping light shows and a top-notch sound system. The VIP area is elegant and all the action is live streamed to a screen on the front of the club.

If you don't come here for any other reason, come for the famous foam parties, which take place three times a week. Without doubt, it's one of the best aspects of Malia nightlife if you don't mind getting covered in foam.
