Elounda Beach Greece

Elounda is a popular destination for sunny beach holidays, and there are plenty of spots to choose from in and around the town. Whether you want to soak up the sunshine with your loved one, or play around with the kids, you're sure to find your perfect spot here.

Elounda's main beach

You won't have to go far to find the main beach in Elounda; it's right in the heart of town, just north of the harbour. A 200-metre stretch of golden sand sheltered by rocky Cretan scenery is ready and waiting for you, so head down there early and grab the best spot for the day! It's dotted with colourful sun loungers and umbrellas, so you can sit back and relax in the sunshine in total comfort.

When you're ready to cool off, you'll want to take a dip in the glistening sea. This sun-soaked spot is a proud holder of the Blue Flag status, so you know these honey-coloured shores and shallow waters are in superb condition, clean, and safe.

It's conveniently located, too; you'll find these soft sands right next to the promenade and harbour, with no shortage of places to eat, drink and shop within reach of your sun lounger.

If you're on holiday with the little ones, they'll love the play area close by; when they've finishing paddling in the sea and building sandcastles, they can do something a bit different here.

Driros Beach

If you like to chop and change where you sunbathe, or you want to escape to out-of-the-way bays, you'll find a few smaller beaches just outside Elounda. There's a pebbly spot at Driros Beach near Plaka, which is only a five-minute drive from the town. It's got Blue Flag status too, so you know it's clean with good facilities.

Nature's had a real hand in designing this beach, with fragrant pine trees running almost all the way down to the shoreline in some spots. There are sun loungers on the beach, plus a café with little tables perched on a wooden jetty. From here you can enjoy stunning views of Elounda Bay and Spinalonga Island.

If you fancy a stroll, it's easy to take a walk to Driros Beach; you'll reach it in 15 minutes if you follow the coastal path. Because it's just out of town, this tends to be the quieter of the beaches in Elounda. So it's well worth the walk if you want to take a break from the crowds and feel like you're really getting away from it all.

And if you continue past Driros, you'll arrive in the village of Plaka, which is home to two beaches. This is another great option if you're looking for peace and quiet.

Further afield

If you really want to mix it up, you could always explore the spectacular Cretan coastline at your leisure and see which big and small beaches you find along the way. In Elounda, you won't be too far away from one of the island's finest beaches; it's located in Stalis, around 40 minutes away by car, and only a short distance from Malia).

It's perfect if you want soft sand that shelves gently into crystal-clear waters and a lovely mountainous backdrop. There are lots of water sports to try here, and the upmarket town is well worth exploring for a spot of retail therapy.
