Fig Tree Bay in Cyprus

For a fun-filled day at the beach, make sure you pay a visit to Fig Tree Bay. With beautiful sands and clear, shallow waters, the main beach in Protaras is perfect whether your family is young or old.

Arriving at the bay on foot from the main resort, hire a sun lounger and umbrella or throw down a towel and prepare to relax in the warm sunshine. Look out for the centuries-old fig tree, which gives the beach its name.

When you're feeling energetic, get the adrenaline pumping with some water sports or go snorkelling around the small island, just a short swim from the shore. For gentle exercise, take a stroll along the coastal boardwalk, stopping for drinks along the way, or go and explore the rock cove at the north end of the beach.

For a longer, more challenging hike there are a number of coastal trails heading north to Louma Beach and south to Lombardi Beach.

If you prefer relaxing with a good book, Fig Tree Bay is the perfect place to unwind. The shallow waters are ideal if you have young children, along with the lifeguard patrols that are on the beach from April to August. There's also excellent disabled access to the beach and into the water.

After your visit to Fig Tree Bay, go and enjoy a traditional Cypriot meal at one of the local restaurants or grab a coffee at a family-run cafe. As night falls, there are plenty of bars and nightclubs close to the beach where you can party until the small hours.
