Aphrodite's Rock near Paphos

Take a short half an hour drive along the scenic turquoise coast to Paphos to swim in the mystical waters of Petra Tou Romiou, better known as the Rock of Aphrodite. According to ancient legends, Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, was born from the waves where she was then escorted by a soft breeze to a shell on the rocks, known now as Aphrodite's Rock.

Another legend suggests the 'the Rock of the Greek' is associated with Byzantine hero Dighenis Akritas, who was known for his amazing strength and hurled huge rocks at pirates to protect his lady. Whatever fable you believe, it still holds huge significance for the country's heritage. Today, the pebbled site is stunning and a great place for a refreshing swim in the cool waters.
