Stina Winery on Brac Island
Sample some of the best Croatian wine going with a visit to the Stina Winery. Head to the town of Bol on Brac Island's south coast, and prepare to be amazed by the stunning scenery as well as the delicious wine.
#As you journey up the side of the mountain to get to where the vines are planted, you'll have breathtaking views out across the Adriatic towards Hvar Island. The vineyard cascades down towards the sea, so steep in some places that they exceed 45 degrees. Rows of grapes stretch as far as the eye can see, so don't forget to take your camera to capture the views.
Stop off at the Dragon Cave on your way back down from the vineyard, as you make your way to the main winery building. Stina is actually a white stone that Brac Island is famous for, and the head sommelier will tell you how the winery takes its inspiration from the skilful crafting of the stone by generations of sculptors. Even their motto is ”Inspiration from stone'.
The winery was built back in 1901, and is housed in a historic building that displays the Croatian words for 'The First Dalmatian Wine Cooperative' across its front. You'll be surrounded by the local stone as you walk through the building towards the cellar, where you'll be taken on a tour to see how the wine is casked and stored. After your tour, you'll be led to the tasting room, where you can try a selection of the reds and whites that Stina produces.
Once you've bought a few bottles of your favourite tipple, stroll the mile or so along the coastline to the Zlatni Rat beach and spend the rest of the afternoon soaking up some golden sunshine.
