The Ponte Vecchio is another must-see and it won’t cost you anything (unless you’re tempted by the trays of gelato in the windows nearby). As you wander, stop to listen to the buskers and admire the view from one of Florence’s oldest bridges.

After a morning in a museum, blow the cobwebs away with a trip to the Boboli Garden, a few minutes walk to the south of the River Arno. It’s ideal for the whole family with plenty of space for playing, walking, and picnics among the stunning statues and fountains.
Shopping, food and drink in Florence
From designer boutiques to market stalls, there’s no shortage of options if you’re looking for some top quality retail therapy. Combine shopping and good food with a trip to the traditional Mercato Centrale, dating back to the late 1800s. Here you can sample some of Tuscany’s most popular locally-produced specialities including fresh meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables.
If you’re looking for traditional leather goods, take a trip to the Mercato Nuevo street market close to Piazza della Signoria. Whilst you’re there, look out for the Porcellino bronze boar statue. Legend says that if you touch its nose you can be certain that you’ll return to the city at some point.
