Fall in love with the Old Town in Dubrovnik

On your trip to Dubrovnik, a visit to the Old Town is an absolute must. As the medieval heart of the city, you can rub shoulders with locals along the narrow streets while you explore the small gift shops and traditional marketplaces. When you arrive in the Old Town, walk along the main street, known as Placa or Stradun, to get your bearings. There’s lots of lovely cafés along the way, so order a coffee or enjoy an ice cream, and sit on an outdoor terrace to watch the world go by.

Dubrovnik’s Old Town is packed full of historic sights, so after your coffee, it’s time to go sightseeing. Visit the Franciscan Monastery, home to a museum and an ancient pharmacy that’s been open since 1317, before browsing the stalls at Gundulićeva Poljana market. As you walk through its side streets, you may even recognise some parts from the TV series Game of Thrones.

If you’re in the Old Town in July, go and see the traditional theatre, dance and music at Dubrovnik Summer Festival. During the high season, the streets can get very busy as cruise ships dock nearby, so avoid the crowds by visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon. After exploring the every corner, walk along the ancient city walls for the best views. Then head to Banje Beach, just a short walk from Ploce Gate, for a relaxing afternoon by the blazing blue Adriatic sea.
