Climb the mountain in a Dubrovnik cable car
One of the best things to do on your trip to Croatia is riding the Dubrovnik cable car to the top of Mount Srd. Originally built in 1969, the cable car was completely destroyed during the Croatian War of Independence. Restored in 2010, today the modern, glass-walled transport system holds up to 25 people and provides you with the best views over the Old Town and the Adriatic Sea.
The embarkation point is in the district of Ploce, just a 5-minute walk from the Old Town (or you can hop on the number 8 bus from Gruz Harbour). It can get busy on sunny days, so booking your ticket in advance online is recommended. Dubrovnik cable car hours vary depending on the time of year you visit, so do check first to avoid disappointment. Taking around four minutes to reach the summit, you’ll soon be 405 metres above sea level, with spectacular panoramas for up to 37 miles on a clear day. When you reach the top, head to the coffee bar or restaurant for refreshments, with breathtaking views over the city’s red roofs.
