Berlin Television Tower

For panoramic views of the German capital, make sure you visit the Berlin Television Tower.

At 368 metres tall, the tower, which is known by locals as Fernsehturm, stands high above the city, and offers 360 degree views across the east and west neighbourhoods. To climb Europe’s highest public monument, buy your ticket and head to the lifts for your allocated time slot.

Taking you up to the observation deck, you’ll see views right across the city from your 200 metre vantage point, including the Reichstag, Tiergarten, Victory Column and Berlin City Hall. On a clear day, you can see almost 50 miles into the distance.

Originally built in 1969, the tower was created to mark the 20th anniversary of the GDR, or East Germany. Since then, it’s become a popular tourist attraction in a unified Berlin. Take coins with you on your visit so you can use the telescopes to see miles and miles across the capital, zooming in on the biggest sights.

For something even more special, book a table at the Sphere Restaurant. It’s in the orb-like part of the tower, and moves to give you a view of the whole city while you dine, making one whole rotation each hour. From traditional dishes to themed kid’s menus, there’s something for the whole family in this one-of-a-kind restaurant high above the city.

After your visit to the Television Tower observation deck, come back to solid ground and spend some time browsing the local souvenir shops selling t-shirts, posters and other gifts to take home as a reminder of your trip.
