Day trip from Guardalavaca to Holguin
The provincial capital city of Holguin is just 60 kilometres from Guardalavaca and is the perfect place to visit if you want to experience the real Cuba. Holguin is affectionately known as the 'City of Parks' and according to Christopher Columbus, it is 'the most beautiful land eyes have ever seen'.
You can take in the sights and sounds of the city as you wander amongst the colonial buildings and stylish plazas. Maybe indulge in a spot of souvenir shopping whilst you're at it. If you choose to book a day trip to Holguin, you can expect a ride on an old locomotive at the old sugar mill at Rafael Freyre, a visit to a local cigar factory, and a traditional Cuban lunch.
It's possible to get your hands on Cuban cigars in the resort of Guardalavaca itself, but the factory in Holguin is your best source for them. It's also a great opportunity to see all the fine detail that goes into making each one. Just don't forget to take your passport with you if you want to buy any at the factory.
