Playa Pilar in Cuba

While in Cuba, make sure you spend a day or two on one of the best beaches on the island, Playa Pilar. To get there, take the bus which runs regularly from Cayo Coco , hopping off at the beach ready for a day in the beautiful Caribbean sunshine.

As soon as you set eyes on Playa Pilar, it's easy to see why it's one of the island's most well-loved beaches. Stepping onto the fine white sands, you'll be in paradise as you set up your spot for the day with your lounger, umbrella and plenty of sun cream.

After basking in the sun, go for a dip in the sparkling turquoise waters. Paddle ankle deep, or go snorkelling as you discover the tropical fish beneath the surface. If you're in need of some shade, go and shelter from the sun under a palapa hut.

If you're feeling adventurous, take a boat trip, rent a kayak or hire an aquatic bike to cross the water to Cayo Media Luna. When you arrive, you can snorkel above a shipwreck, feast on lobster, and relax on shaded hammocks. Don't miss the chickens and rabbits as they run about on the island.

When you're feeling hungry, go and eat at one of the beachside restaurants. Ranchón Playa Pilar serves up freshly grilled meat and seafood, including lobster, shrimp, chicken and pork.

Before leaving this idyllic beach, make sure you go and explore the trails through the sand dunes. Standing high at 15 metres tall, they're the largest dunes in all of the Caribbean and make for some great photo opportunities.
