What's the weather like in Texas in March?

Texas is in the southern United States, and forms part of the country’s border with Mexico. This huge state has diverse landscapes ranging from barren deserts to thick forests and sandy beaches, along with lots of varied weather. Most of the east has a humid subtropical climate, while things are drier in the west, but it can get very cold at night here. In March, temperatures are warming up after the cooler winter period, and it can get quite hot in large parts of the state as springtime begins.

Averages

The city of Houston is close to Texas’s Gulf of Mexico coastline in the southeast of the state, and has an average temperature of 17ºC in March. There are highs of 22ºC in the peak of the afternoon, while evenings are still quite chilly, cooling down to 12ºC. Temperatures are similar in Austin, where you can expect around 60mm of rain at this time of year, which is a quarter less than in Houston. Things are a bit cooler in Dallas in the northeast, while temperatures still dip to 4ºC in El Paso at night, although less than 10mm of rain’s forecast this month there.
