What's the weather like in Tunisia in May?
Hot and very dry’s the best way to describe the fantastic weather in Tunisia in May. This month sees the average daytime high reach a brilliant 26°C, with just a few light showers expected along Tunisia’s sun-kissed coastline. May’s a great time to explore Tunisia in warm weather before the busier summer crowds arrive.
Geographical influences
Thanks to its location on the northern tip of Africa and along the southern edge of the Mediterranean, Tunisia enjoys a warm year-round climate. The summer begins in May and resorts in the south, like the idyllic island of Djerba, are slightly hotter than cities along the northern coast, such as Tunis and Sousse. The Mediterranean sea breeze is very welcoming, as Tunisia’s inland deserts can see extreme heat in hot months.
Averages
The Tunisia weather in May is amongst the warmest in all of the Mediterranean. Just 17mm of rain falls over an average of four rain-affected days, with any brief showers soon cleared by the bright sunshine. You can expect up to ten hours of amazing Tunisian sunshine from 14 hours of daylight during your stay. The high temperature will reach a fantastic 26°C, and even on slightly cooler days, it’ll still average 23°C. The water temperature of 19°C lets you dip in the Mediterranean or try some exciting water sports. With a calm wind speed of 12mph along Tunisia’s coastline and humidity of 52%, May’s often more comfortable at this time, compared to the warmer months of June, July and August.
