What’s the weather like in Spain in May?
In May, Spain starts to enjoy warmer, sunnier weather throughout the country. With just a small chance of showers, the last month of spring is generally dry, making it a good time of year to explore the cultural sights and relax on the beach. While southern coastal areas are warmer than central and northern regions, the whole of Spain has plenty of sunshine in May.
Averages
On the south coast, Malaga starts getting warmer with an average temperature of 19°C and highs of 26°C. At night the temperature dips to a brisk 13°C, so you’ll still need warm layers for the evenings. The capital Madrid is a little cooler with highs of 22°C, while San Sebastian on the northern coast has highs of 19°C. Malaga has just five wet days and 25mm of rain in May, so showers are uncommon and very short-lived, with nine to ten hours of sunshine each day.
