What’s the weather like in Madrid in May?
May is a lovely time to pack your bags and head to Madrid for a spring holiday. Madrid weather in May is very warm as summer is just around the corner. The city is slightly busier at this time of year, but it’s still quiet compared to the crowds that swarm in during the summer.
Geographical influences
Located in Spain, Madrid has a typical Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool, damp winters. Despite having a few showers spread over the month, Madrid is one of the driest capitals in Europe. Fresh breezes blow in from almost every direction due to the city’s position near the Toledo, Guadarrama and Somosierra mountains. This leads to a lovely climate with warm, fresh air and clear blue skies for most of May.
Averages
The average temperature is around 15°C, which is perfect for a relaxing day of sightseeing and shopping. Around midday, you’ll notice a climb in temperatures to highs of 22°C before lowering to around 8°C at night. There’s just 40mm of rainfall spread over 11 days of the month, which means there’s a small chance of rain. You can look forward to ten hours of beautiful Mediterranean sunshine per day, which is more than enough time to explore the city and make the most out of your holiday.
