What’s the weather like in Tenerife in September?

Located off the west coast of Africa, the island's has hot summers means September is a great time to book holidays to Tenerife. There’s different weather around the largest of the Canaries, although the most popular tourist spots get lots of sun and hardly any rain.

Geographical influences

Breezes and the cooling Canary Current will keep you comfortable in September, even though Tenerife’s close to the Sahara Desert. Mount Teide shelters the south from north easterly winds and attracts most of the rain. The Sahara can send over the occasional dust storm, although you won’t be affected if you’re staying right on the coast. They stay above sea level during the summer so you'll only get them in the mountains.

Averages

During September the average high temperature’s 27ºC, so bring a good selection of swimwear and beach gear. Things remain nice in the evenings, with temperatures falling only to 18ºC. The average sea temperature’s 24ºC, while the air’s most humid at this time but it’s still low. Average rainfall’s 10mm over three rainy days.

Daylight

You can expect 12 hours of daylight and eight hours of sunshine in September, so you can look forward to long sunny days. Make sure you take plenty of sun cream though as UV levels will be very high, while sunset’s around 8.30pm at the beginning of the month.
