What’s the weather like in Tenerife in October?

Tenerife enjoys hot weather in October due to its location just off the west coast of Africa. It’s the largest of the Canary Islands, and has some different weather across the island, although the most popular tourist spots have lots of sun and not much rain at this time.

Canary Current

Although it’s near to the Sahara Desert, you'll be kept comfortable during your Tenerife holidays by cool breezes and the Canary Current, which is a stream of water that takes the edge off the heat. As well as keeping you cool, the current’s also great for Tenerife’s diving scene. Mount Teide attracts rain so you'll stay dry on the coast, and the mountain also shelters the south from north easterly winds. Things can get hot when winds blow over from Africa, which can also bring the occasional dust storm.

Averages

During October the average high temperature in Tenerife is 25ºC, so don't forget to pack your beach gear. It’s quite comfortable in the evening but you might want to bring a warmer top just in case. At 24ºC the sea’s at its highest annual temperature, while humidity’s low and ranges from 50% to 80%. Average rainfall’s just 20mm over five rainy days.

Daylight

During October you can expect 11 hours of daylight with seven hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be high so be careful at the hottest time of day and make sure you pack plenty of sun cream, while sunset’s just before 8pm at the start of the month.
