What's the weather like in the Canary Islands in May?

Nicknamed the ‘Islands of Eternal Spring’, the Canary Islands sit in the Atlantic Ocean and are a popular destination for sun-drenched beach holidays. The weather’s slightly different across the islands, but they all have a subtropical climate which means they’re warm and sunny all year round. In May, temperatures are building towards their summer peak, and you can look forward to lots of blue skies and great weather if you visit at this time.

Lanzarote has an average temperature of 21ºC in May, with highs of 25ºC and lows of 17ºC. Temperatures are almost identical over on Tenerife to the west, while Gran Canaria is a little bit cooler. There’s hardly any rain on any of the islands this month, while daily sunshine hours range from eight hours in Tenerife to ten hours in Lanzarote. If you want to go swimming or snorkelling in the sea, the Atlantic waters are 20ºC at this time of year.
