What’s the weather like in Lanzarote in January?
Sitting off the west coast of northern Africa, Lanzarote has warm weather all year round. The furthest east of the Canary Islands, January’s one of the coolest months of the year but you'll still get lots of sunshine with not much rain at this time.
Climatic influences
Lanzarote lies less than 130km from the Sahara Desert, but north easterly winds and the cooling Canary Current will keep you comfortable. On the other hand, the calima is a hot wind that blows in from Africa, and brings high temperatures and the occasional dust storm. Lanzarote’s quite flat, so there’s not much difference in weather across the island, although the south is generally a bit warmer and sunnier than the north.
Averages
The average high temperature in Lanzarote during January is 21ºC, making it a great place to go to for winter sun. You'll definitely need your beach gear and swimmers for the days, but as temperatures cool to 13ºC at night you should pack some warmer clothes for the evenings. The average sea temperature’s 19ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from the late-50s to late-80s(%). Despite being one of the wettest months of the year, average rainfall’s still only 26mm over 4 rainy days.
Daylight
During January you can expect 11 hours of daylight with 7 hours of sunshine each day; the UV index will be moderate. Sunset’s just after 6pm at the beginning of January, and moves later towards the end of the month.
