What’s the weather like in Lanzarote in December?
The furthest east of Spain’s Canary Islands, you'll get high temperatures and not much rain if you're going to Lanzarote in December. This is because it’s so close to the west coast of North Africa, making Lanzarote holidays ideal for a bit of winter sun.
Climatic influences
The Sahara Desert’s less than 130km away from Lanzarote, which gives the island its warm weather. Things can get hot when winds blow in from Africa. This can also bring the occasional dust storm and these are most likely when seasons are changing, but stick to the coast if one hits and you should be fine. North easterly winds and the Canary Current will keep you cool, while Lanzarote’s quite small and flat so there’s not much difference in weather around the island.
Averages
The average high temperature in Lanzarote is 22ºC in December, which is perfectly warm enough to relax on the beach and enjoy the winter sun. You should pack a warmer jumper for the evenings as things can get a bit cool, with temperatures dropping to around 14ºC at night. The average sea temperature’s only a couple of degrees cooler than summer at 20ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from 60% to 90%. Average rainfall’s just 29mm across four rainy days.
Daylight
During December you can expect ten hours of daylight and six hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be moderate, so make sure you take care in the sun. Sunset gets later until it’s after 6pm in December
