What’s the weather like in Canary Islands in July?
The Canary Islands weather in July is hot and dry, with wonderful sunshine and not too much rain. The warm Atlantic Ocean climate produces very welcoming temperatures around the main islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma. These resorts are busy in this peak summer month and visitors love relaxing on the beaches and by hotel pools.
Geographical influences
In summer months like July, warm air from the Sahara desert can be blown across to the Canary Islands. By the time it’s reached the islands the air’s been cooled by the ocean and brings welcome refreshment. The Canary Islands are also affected by trade winds in July and the Canary Current pulls colder water from the North Atlantic to the islands.
Averages
The Canary Islands are hot at this time, with Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria slightly warmer because they’re in the west and south of the region. The average daytime temperature is 23°C, but can have highs of around 30°C. The average low is 18°C. The weather in the Canary Islands in July has average rainfall of 90mm, with resorts in the north of the islands slightly wetter because they’re exposed to the trade winds. Most showers are light and the blazing sun usually breaks them up. You can expect loads of sunshine this month with an average of 13 hours each day. Humidity and UV levels are high, so use plenty of sunblock and take water with you when you’re by the beach or out in the open.
