The weather in Gran Canaria during September can only be described as summery, even though it’s heading towards autumn. This is down to the island’s location off the west coast of North Africa with the Sahara Desert nearby.

There’s different weather around Gran Canaria thanks to its high mountains. The south’s sheltered from north easterly winds, meaning it’s warmer and drier than the north. The island is cooled by the trade winds and Canary Current, which will keep you comfortable even though the desert’s so close. Things can get hot sometimes when hot, dry winds arrive from Africa, which push temperatures up and can bring the occasional dust storm.
